How to optimise your Google profile for more enquiries
A practical walk-through of the parts of Google Business Profile that actually drive more enquiries — category, photos, services and action buttons.
By Mediseo

A profile can be visible without producing enquiries. People find you, but never call, never click, never book. The difference rarely comes down to one big move — it comes down to a series of small fields most businesses never fill in properly.
Visibility and enquiries aren't the same thing
Showing up is only half the job. The other half is that the person who sees you actually does something. An optimised profile helps with both: it gives reasons to appear, and reasons to get in touch.
Think of the profile as a small sales sheet. Every field is a chance to answer a question the customer would otherwise have had to call to clear up — or dropped you over because they couldn't be bothered.
Start with category and services
The main category is your single most important choice. It tells Google what you do, and decides which searches you're eligible for.
- Pick the most precise main category, not the broadest.
- Add relevant secondary categories if you offer several services.
- Fill in the services list with what you actually do, in the customer's words.
When someone sees that you offer exactly what they're looking for, the barrier to getting in touch drops sharply.
Photos do more than you think
Photos are often the first thing people notice, and what separates a living business from an abandoned listing.
- Show your premises, your team and your work — not just a logo.
- Use real photos, not generic stock images.
- Keep them current, so it doesn't look like nothing has happened in years.
You don't need a photographer. Good, honest photos from a phone beat an empty profile every time.
Write a description that answers questions
The description is your chance to say who you're for, where you are, and what sets you apart. Keep it concrete.
- Say what you offer and who you help.
- Mention the area you cover.
- Drop the empty superlatives — write as you'd explain it to a customer on the phone.
Make it easy to get in touch
Even a good profile loses people if it's unclear what the next step is.
- A phone number that's correct and answered.
- A website link that goes to a relevant page, not just the homepage.
- A booking or contact button if you have one, so people can act straight away.
- Correct opening hours, including special days, so nobody meets a closed door.
Every extra obstacle between interest and action costs you enquiries.
Use the fields most people skip
There are parts of the profile almost nobody fills in, and that's exactly why they set you apart when you do.
- Questions and answers. People can ask questions directly on the profile. Add the most common ones yourself and answer them, so the customer doesn't have to wonder.
- Attributes. Small labels like "wheelchair accessible", "free parking" or "card accepted" answer practical questions before they're asked.
- Products and services. A short list with prices or packages gives people enough to consider you without having to call first.
These fields cost little time and remove friction. Every doubt you clear away is an enquiry you don't lose.
Think about what the customer is wondering
The best way to optimise is to see the profile as a customer would. What questions come up before they get in touch?
- Are they open now?
- Are they somewhere I can reach easily?
- Do they offer exactly what I need?
- Do they seem trustworthy?
When your profile answers all four without the customer having to dig, you've done the job.
Keep it alive
Google rewards profiles that are maintained. You don't need to do much, but you should do something regularly.
- Post a short update or announcement now and then.
- Answer questions people ask on the profile.
- Check that the information still holds true each month.
A profile that looks cared for feels more trustworthy — and trust is what ultimately decides whether people reach out.
Go through your profile field by field once, fill the gaps, and you'll often see a difference without having changed anything else.
